![]() ![]() Though I am more a fan of ffmpeg because it gives you a lot more options that can be changed through a plugin like using a different CRF value depending on the resolution etc. You can also add a preset of your handbrake and use that in tdarr as well. Tdarr can do everything that Handbrake and ffmpeg can do, you just have to configure it. you can checkout Tdarr which can use both handbrake and ffmpeg and also has a lot of plugins for various things that can even change its behaviour depending on what resolution etc the input file has.Ĭan tdarr do 10 bit 265 as a docker with Nvidia? if the bitdepth is at 8bit then you will have to specify that you want 10bit.īy the way, Handbrake is a bit more manual labour unless you have some automatic way of doing that. Best way to check is to make a test transcode and use MediaInfo to check what came out of it. I have to specify if I want 10bit bitdepth (with ffmpeg not handbrake though). Is 265 hvenc hardware encoding 8 bit or 10? The Shield and the FireStick do support H.265 and Kodi is using its own codecs so that should work as well. H.265 is not so commonly supported as H.264 is so some clients won't play it without it being transcoded. I have Kodi htpcs now and as they play anything if I were to purchase a shield, Roku or firestick am I going to have a bad time? With the increased pixel count of blu-ray, AVC needs to be able to encode more data into a smaller overall stream (better compression, less loss), and is more efficient overall than the MPEG 2 standards used for DVD, when compared at the same "quality" level. AVC (aka h264) is used for BluRay format videos. this is the only way I know of that you could do it, without transcoding the stream (you would "rip" the stream, instead of transcode).ĪFAIK, mpg is not nearly as efficient as more modern storage methods. For lossless DVD ripping, you would need to extract the MPEG stream from the DVD's formatting and drop it into another container (eg.MPG ) for plex to understand. It works for me, there are other options but AFAIK, Plex does not support native DVD format. but I'm currently (as in, right this minute) pulling DVD data, dropping it onto a small temporary array (4x1TB WD Blacks), and then using handbrake to convert to MP4 (AVC/AAC), then placing them in my Plex shared folder. ![]() TL DR - Looking for best method to rip DVD that will produce best quality regardless of size that will work with Plex Sever. yet) DVD rip that is compatible with Plex? For lots of the newer ones, we can find excellent digital copies elsewhere, but he has several obscure DVD titles that aren't available anywhere else, so we would need to rip them from his collection manually. He has a vast (about 1700 titles) DVD collection that I want to start helping him archive. My buddy lets me connect to his Plex server, and even added me to his Home on the Plex Pass, because of this, I want to help him out. Hey Everyone, I am not sure if this is the best place for this, so if you can think of somewhere better, please direct me there.
